Course Description:
Sped Mentoring Academy Fall_2023
Recommended for first-year special education teachers. 

New and inexperienced special education teachers will receive support and training
to gain knowledge, strategies and skills to teach students with disabilities. 
The ultimate goal is to encourage teachers to remain in the field of special education. The training will include professional learning activities designed to improve the proficiency in writing compliant Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to include Present Levels of Academic  Achievement and Functional Performances (PLAAFP), Transition Plans, and Behavior Intervention Plans. Special education law and exceptionality areas will be covered. In addition, co-teaching delivery models and development/use of accommodations and modifications will be taught.

System Special Education Administrator and or building level instructional leaders will assign a building level mentor to provide on-going coaching/mentoring support throughout the year. 

GLRS staff/instructors may provide onsite support, collaboration, and observations.
